How the money can be received
Western Union's UK page says receivers can collect cash at agent locations across South Sudan or receive funds in a mobile wallet. It does not name the wallets 3. You can send online, in the Western Union app or at an agent in the UK 3. The page did not show fees for South Sudan when checked on 20 October 2026 3.
Western Union says a receiver collecting cash needs a valid government ID and the tracking number, called the MTCN 6.
MTN MoMo South Sudan receives money from abroad through partners. ITWeb named the UAE, Uganda, Kenya, the United States and Australia among 15 countries in May 2025 7. Access Radio listed 11 countries in June 2025 8. Neither report named the UK 7,8.
How costs have changed
UNCDF reported in April 2023 that sending US$200 to South Sudan from Europe cost 10.5% in the third quarter of 2022 2. It listed the UK among the least costly corridors to South Sudan 2. In the World Bank's third quarter 2025 data the average for £120 from the UK was 7.95% 1.
Check the firm before you send
The FCA's Financial Services Register at https://register.fca.org.uk/ shows firms that are or have been authorised. It lists firms the FCA has been told operate without authorisation or run scams 4.
In a March 2026 notice about a UK payment firm, the FCA said the Financial Services Compensation Scheme does not apply to payment services 5. Keep your receipt and tracking number until the money is collected 6.
